OCHS April 2025 Meeting
Brothers Paul and Marty Andry were the program presenters for our recent April meeting. The two grew up near Valeene in Southeast Township and shared history related to the Noblitt/Vance cabin.
Included in the Andry's presentation was how Valeene having played into a significant historical event during the Civil War. Captain Thomas Hines, a member of Gen. John H. Morgan's famed division, led a confederate junket through Southern Indiana in June 1863. A July 1963 clipping from the Dubois County Daily Herald recounted the event, reporting it had occurred two to three weeks before Morgan's spectacular ride in Southern Indiana. The Andrys discussed their family’s encounter with Captain Hines.
